Spanish Insects (not Butterflies)
In common with other fauna, Spain sits at a crossroads, with an intriguing mix of northern European, Mediterranean and Iberian endemic species. Unfortunately, no definitive guide to Spanish insects is easily available (at least in English), so it can be difficult for a traveller to identify what they see!
Given its diverse topography and range of habitats, Spain has a rich and varied dragonfly fauna, with almost 80 species occurring in the country. These range from familiar and widespread common species, to more restricted Mediterranean species.
This section includes an assortment of grasshoppers, beetles and day-flying moths I saw on my travels in August 2011.
