Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax)

One of Australia's most familiar birds of prey, this majestic species can be seen across the entire country, although one can never predict seeing one. Even when distant, the long, wedge-shaped tail is very distinctive, as is its size - the wingspan of adults is over two metres.

Like its European counterpart, this bird is built for speed, with a streamlined silhouette reminiscent of a Swift. Up close, the black and white face with browner underparts become visible.
The Australian Hobby is found across the country, only being absent from the south-west of Tasmania.

Nankeen Kestrel (Falco cenchroides)
Granite Island CP, Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
Another very widespread bird of prey, the Nankeen Kestrel is able to hover, like its close cousins worldwide. In colour and pattern, it looks remarkably like the Kestrel of Europe
